Dr. Bradford G. Hill, Ph.D, FAHA

Professor of Medicine

Bradford G. Hill, Ph.D., is a Professor and University Scholar in the Envirome Institute and the Associate Director of the Center for Cardiometabolic Science within the School of Medicine at the University of Louisville. His research focuses on the metabolic underpinnings of cardiometabolic health and disease. This involves critical examinations of glycolysis, mitochondria, and biosynthetic pathways of metabolism and development of causal relationships between metabolic changes and (patho)physiology. In particular, his studies focus on how glucose metabolism and mitochondrial activity influence pathological cardiac remodeling as well as how changes in metabolism underlie adaptations to physiological stressors such as exercise. Recent work from Dr. Hill's laboratory demonstrate how metabolism influences exercise-induced cardiac growth and how cardiomyocyte metabolism influences myocardial blood flow. His group is also examining how metabolism influences fibroblast biology and tissue repair and remodeling.

Dr. Hill serves or has served as a peer reviewer for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDRMP) / Department of Defense (DoD), the American Diabetes Association (ADA), and the American Heart Association (AHA); he has also served as a peer reviewer for numerous international funding agencies. Dr. Hill is currently a member of the Editorial Boards of Circulation ResearchAmerican Journal of Physiology – Heart and Circulatory PhysiologyJournal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, and Redox Biology, among others. He has authored or coauthored over 120 peer-reviewed articles.
